The Golden Years Manifesto

What if the deal we've all accepted isn't one we'd choose if we knew the cost?

A cost paid not in money, but in the decades of our lives we'll never get back.

Go to school for 13+ years, so you can...
Get into a good school, so you can...
Go to school for 4-8 years, so you can...
Get a good job, so you can...
Earn a living for 40 more years, so you can...
Save and invest enough money...

So that—if everything goes according to plan, if your health holds, if your knees still cooperate, if life doesn’t throw one of its mysterious little flaming bags of poo onto your front porch—you’ll finally get to enjoy the life you spent all those years building.

But most of us never read the fine print:

For more than four decades, you'll spend the healthiest years of your life organizing everything around some one else's agenda:

Where you live.
When you wake up.
When you eat.
When you spend time with your family.
When you mow your grass
When you buy groceries
When you vacation.
When you can be sick.
When you can see a doctor.
When you retire.

But we don’t believe that’s how life is meant to work.

We believe the purpose of life isn’t to squeeze every possible drop of output from yourself until there’s nothing left.

We believe life is more than a race to become efficient enough, productive enough, successful enough.

We believe your worth was never meant to be measured by how much you can produce before you collapse into bed or pass out on the sofa.

We believe your calendar should be built around what you care about most, not what some guy named Matt with a calendar invite thinks is important.

We believe work is a part of life.

A beautiful part, sometimes.

A meaningful part.

But not the whole thing.

We believe your greatest memories shouldn’t be squeezed into two-day windows between meetings, errands, and the Sunday-night dread slipping under the covers like it had a standing reservation.

We believe life shouldn’t get whatever is left over after everything else has taken its share.

Life deserves the whole meal.

Not the crumbs.

We believe retirement was never supposed to be a finish line you crawl toward after decades of waiting.

Because retirement is not the absence of work.
It is the presence of choice.

The choice to decide what you build.
Who you build it with.
When you work.
How you work.
Why you work.
And when enough is enough.

It’s waking up in the morning knowing your work supports your life.

Not the other way around.

The best retirement plan might not be spending your entire life trying to collect enough money so you can finally walk away.

Maybe the best retirement plan is building a life you don’t need to retire from at all.

A life you don’t spend decades counting down from.

A life you actually want to wake up inside.

And no, we don’t have unlimited time to figure this out.

None of us are promised sixty-five.

None of us are promised next year.
Next month.
Tomorrow.

That’s the sinister little truth-gremlin curled up in the corner of the room waiting to bite you in the groin while you answer emails and scramble to meet that deadline and tell yourself you’ll get to Italy, someday...write that book, someday...make that documentary, someday...build that tiny house, someday.

And yes, money matters.

Of course it does.

Money is a tool. A powerful one.

But money was never really about the things it lets you buy.

The greatest thing money can buy is something far more valuable:

Your time.
Your choices.
Your freedom to decide what matters, who matters, and how you spend this strange, fragile, beautiful collection of days you've been given.

For generations, we've accepted a different way of life:

Work first. Live later.

In 1959, a marketing campaign gave the "later" part a name:

The Golden Years.

But we believe your golden years shouldn't be something you stumble into at the end of your life.

They should represent something bigger:

Not an age.
Not a finish line.
Not a prize waiting at the end of a long hallway where you've spent your whole life walking.

The Golden Years are the freedom to live life on your own terms.

Whenever you choose.

We believe the Golden Years don’t begin when you turn 65.

They begin when you stop accepting the agreement that says you have to wait to live.

Not after decades of sacrifice.
Not after you save enough.
Not after the kids leave home.
Now.

This isn’t about retiring early.

It’s about retiring from the idea that your life has to wait.

It’s about stepping away from a version of success that asks you to trade away the very thing you’re working so hard to protect.

The only life you'll ever get.

The Golden Years Project is for the people who have always felt that something about modern life doesn’t quite add up.

The people who look at the traditional path and think:

“Wait… is this really it?”

The people who refuse to believe their best years belong somewhere behind them or somewhere far ahead of them.

We exist to make traditional retirement obsolete by helping people build lives they don’t want to retire from.

Because the goal isn't retirement.

The goal is waking up and being able to say, "What do I get to do today?"

To live on your own terms.
To decide how you spend the time you’ve been given on this lonely little lump of rock.

And that doesn't belong at the end of your life.

It belongs at the center of it.

Welcome to The Golden Years Project.

Don't want to wait until you're 65 to live your Golden Years?

Discover the complete digital system to design and build your new life, so your golden years don't have to wait. Because retirement isn't when you stop working, it's when you stop sacrificing your life for a life that isn't lived on your terms.

The Origin
The Golden Years Project was founded on one simple belief: Retirement isn't when you stop working. It's when you stop sacrificing your life for work that isn't done on your terms. We exist to help people reach that point decades before society says they're allowed to.

The Illusion of Safety

For 15 years, I worked for some of the largest software companies in the world. Despite my success, I knew I could be let go at any moment.

The Breaking Point

Then, at 46 years old, as a late-discovered autistic, the unexpected happened. I was laid off.

I stood at a massive crossroads. I had a choice to make.

I could find another job and return to a life built on someone else's terms—the endless cycle that drained my energy, traded my best years for a false sense of security, and caused repeated burnout simply because I was operating in a system that wasn't built for me.

Or, I could "retire" from that world entirely.

I could spend the second half of my life creating, earning, and living in a way that actually fit how my brain worked.

Designing the Escape

I didn't have a massive pile of savings. I didn't have a clear plan.

So, I built one.

I used my background in instructional and process design to engineer the exact system I wished I had years ago. I needed something to save myself the grief, the hard days, and the sleepless nights. I needed a framework that would allow me to thrive during my second half, rather than just barely survive.

The Golden Years Project is the result. And it is here to help you build yours.
